Aggressive inline bearings are located inside the wheel and are what make your wheel spin. Bearings come in various shapes and styles and make a big impact on how your aggressive skates will feel when shredding. Because of the grinds and jumps that you do in this style of skating, the bearings take a lot of wear and tear so even the most durable models will have to be replaced at some point.
Inline skate bearings are often measured on the ABEC scale, which is a measurement of the efficiency of the bearing. However, just because a bearing is not on the ABEC scale does not mean that it is of poor quality. To get a more detailed overview of the ABEC system as well as other ways that bearing quality is measured, check out our guide on Buying Bearings.
How Do You Get Bearings Out of Aggressive Skate Wheels?
To remove your bearings, you’ll need an Allen key or a Skate tool that is designed for skates. The first thing you need to do is remove your wheels from your skate frame. To do this, you will first need to unscrew your axle holding the wheel to the frame.
Next, you’ll need to remove the spacers. With a floating spacer, put your skate tool halfway through the center of the bearing and slowly try to push it out while rotating the wheel. With a long sleeve bearing spacer, hit the edge of the spacer and then you just need to simply push out the bearing on the other side.
To install the new bearings, all you need to do is simply push it into where the old bearing was. Then, insert the spacer and the second bearing. This is the same process for both types of spacers.
